By: Mackenzie L.

After deciding if you want to be a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, you start medical that focuses on your choice. Medical school is said to be hard and exhausting, but what does it really entail? What do you learn in medical school?

Through your first and second years as a medical student you will take class on anatomy, physiology, microbiology and other science classes. As you work through these classes, and depending on your school, you will experience ways of examining patients and what questions to ask when examination take place.  As you near your second year you lean more on clinical structured learn than classroom learning. This is the beginning of your real life medical training.

In your third year you start your rotations. You will be assigned into a medical team, A medical team contains an attending (senior doctor), residents (doctors-in-training) and interns (first year residents). Being a student still, some doctors will make your life terrible Some of students get bullied and end up dropping out with not being able to handle the pressures. In your rotations, you will spend a certain amount of time in each specialty field. These fields include, orthopedics (doctor of muscle-skeletal systems), internal -medicine (a doctor you see on a normal bases), pediatrics (doctors of children) and many more. Year four is much like three but becomes even more in depth on which parts of the body are being looked at. For example, if you like orthopedics you may look into the spine, foot and ankle, shoulder or arm and wrist.

After graduating medical school, you must take a board exam. This gives you the license to practice. Then you move on to do your residence, which should last between 3-7 years at a teaching hospital. At the end you will be a doctor that can help save lives!
